What Sets Spinpods Apart?

Unlike other commercial suspension culture vessels, spinpods are less expensive – meaning exploration research and process development are affordable. Their compact design economizes on valuable cells, reagents, and incubator space.

Self-sealing Silastic ports make loading and re-feeding easy while providing BSL-2 containment.Only spinpods allow monitoring by microscopy in situ through thin, optically clear membranes.

No need for specialized equipment. Spinpods can rotate on Cell Spinpod’s Mini-Rotator, ordinary lab bottle rollers, or axial rotors.

Advantages of Rotating Suspension Culture

Particles sediment under the influence of gravity but are continuously brought back into suspension as the vessel slowly spins, balancing gravity with physiologic, laminar, low-level fluid shear stress uniformly throughout the vessel. With its unique design, the spinpod ensures particles remain suspended, promoting adherence-free growth and development of 3D architecture.

In a full spinpod, the fluid rotates as a solid mass in a laminar flow with no turbulence. It simulates microgravity with controlled amounts of shear stress, exposing all particles to ~0.4 to 0.12 dynes/cm² of shear stress, a value close to in vivo levels. By inducing low-level fluid shear flow, the surfaces of cells are stimulated to maintain differentiation features such as drug transporters, offering superior cell culture results. Adherence-dependent cells can be exposed to fluid shear stress in spinpods by growing them on carrier beads.
